The “Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite” is the liturgy of the Catholic Church in use after the reforms of the Second Vatican Council.  Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is a phrase used in Pope Benedict XVI’s 2007 Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum to describe the liturgy of the 1962 Roman Missal.

“Extraordinary Form”  also often referred as the “Traditional” Latin Mass following Pius XII’s liturgical reform of the Roman Calendar which eliminated more than half of the Church’s Vigils and almost all of the traditional Octaves.
