Description
Garden Sanctuary Pieta Sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti. A famous example by Michelangelo is located in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. This Pieta Sculpture is an estate-sized reproduction of original statue that was found just outside the church of Santa Croce, Michelangelo’s final resting place in Florence. One of the things that has amazed us about Michelangelo’s breathtaking Pieta is that his vision began with a rough block of marble hauled out of the quarries at Carrara, Italy.
This replica is cast in weather-resistant quality designer resin for outdoor garden use. Please also consult our “Winter Care of Statues” page to make your statues last the longest and keep their beauty over time.
Pietà is one of the three common artistic representations of a sorrowful Virgin Mary, the other two being Mater Dolorosa (Mother of Sorrows) and Stabat Mater (here stands the mother). The scene of the Pieta shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Christ after his crucifixion, death, and removal from the cross, but before he was placed in the tomb. This is one of the key events from the life of the Virgin, known as the Seven Sorrows of Mary, which were the subject of Catholic devotional prayers.

VIRGÓ SACRÁTA is a Christian mission-driven online resource and shop inspired from the beauty of Catholic faith, tradition, and arts. Our mission is to “Restore All Things to Christ!”, in continuing the legacy of Pope St. Pius X under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. “Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?” O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
